Fire protection services chapter from the CIPHE's Plumbing Engineering Services Design Guide.
The three basic essentials required before any fire can start are:
a. Fuel, i.e., something to burn
b. Air, i.e., oxygen to sustain combustion
c. Heat.
The process of combustion or burning can be likened to a triangle. Removal of any one of the sides of that triangle will result in extinguishment of the fire and this is the principle on which all forms of fire extinguishment are based.
Guidance is given in this section on the requirements for fire perotection services with a focus on fire sprinkler systems.
