The Worshipful Company of Plumbers (WCoP) is inviting applications for its annual Bursary Awards, with the aim of supporting more young people during 2024, as they embark upon careers in the plumbing industry.
The tools and equipment Bursary scheme, which is sponsored by Monument Tools and City & Guilds, has been running for over 20 years now. It is specifically designed to help plumbing students who would benefit from financial assistance, as a direct result of completing their second year of the Trailblazer apprenticeship, or to support those who are progressing from NVQ Level 2 MES (Plumbing) to undertake their Level 3 MES (Plumbing) qualification, or equivalent.
The Company annually considers Bursaries of up to £1,000 for around six plumbing students, which are awarded in the form of vouchers to help individuals purchase essential toolbox equipment that would otherwise prove costly alongside studies.
To be considered for a financial award, students are encouraged to apply direct to the WCoP, by completing an online form or applying by post. All applicants are required to include a reference from their lecturer or employer as part of their submission, together with proof of completion of Level 2 MES (Plumbing) and registration for Level 3 MES (Plumbing), or equivalent. Professional bodies are also being encouraged to support students who, in their opinion, meet the criteria and would therefore merit consideration as a possible recipient of a Bursary.
Chair of Technical & Education Committee at The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, Julie Spinks, said: “We are delighted that our annual Bursary Awards continue to go from strength to strength, with six very worthy students being recognised during 2023, and up to six more young people set to benefit from the same level of financial support next year. Most importantly, the awards are inclusive, and we therefore welcome applications from all those who are working hard towards becoming professional plumbers.”
For guidance, the 2024 Bursary Awards timetable is as follows:
