The Engineering Council congratulates Kerry Evans CEng FIHE, recipient of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) 2024 Karen Burt Memorial Award for best newly qualified female Chartered Engineer.
The Karen Burt Memorial Award recognises the importance of Chartered status and the award winner’s excellence and potential in engineering practice as well as contributions made in the promotion of the engineering profession.
Kerry Evans is Technical Director (Highways) at Eco-Scope and is the Senior Operations Manager for a 40km section of the A55 in north Wales. She is also researching a PhD with Leeds Beckett University. Previously, she was the Chair of the ICE north Wales Branch 2021-2022 and is currently the Chair of the Menai Bridge Heritage Trust.
We also extend our congratulations to two other WES Award winners, Lucy Davies IEng AMRAeS and Isobel Howe EngTech MIMechE.
Lucy has been named Best Newly Incorporated Engineer. She is a Technical Manager in Sustainable Air Platforms at BAE Systems and has been selected for their Future Talent Programme. She achieved Incorporated Engineer status with the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2023 and actively supports women in engineering through roles in the Royal Aeronautical Society and WISE Young Professionals' Board.
Isobel has been awarded Best Newly Registered Technician. She is a Product System Design Engineer Degree Apprentice in power generation. She obtained EngTech membership in 2023 and advocates for women in engineering through her work with school children as a STEM Ambassador.
