WaterSafe is calling on all plumbers and installers to protect drinking water by only using lead-free solder.

WaterSafe is urging households and business owners to check plumbers working on their drinking water systems only use lead-free solder or fittings which don’t need solder.

Lead can dissolve in drinking water and cause health issues, particularly in babies and young children.

Read why installers Duncan and David took the lead-free pledge.

Although it's illegal to use lead solder on drinking water systems, a survey shows some plumbers still use it and two-thirds carry it in their bags.

Take the pledge to only carry and use lead-free solder, to avoid lead solder in drinking water systems.

Julie Spinks, director of WaterSafe, said: “Always using lead-free solder is the only safe option. This is a simple step all installers can take to safeguard public health and we appreciate your support.”

Marcus Rink, chief inspector of the Drinking Water Inspectorate in England and Wales, endorsed the campaign: “We must all play our part to eliminate all sources lead, including the sale and use of lead-containing plumbing materials to protect our future generations.”
