In World Plumbing Day

Every year on March 11, communities around the world recognize World Plumbing Day, a day to appreciate the critical role plumbing plays in our daily lives. From delivering clean water to protecting public health, plumbing is essential—but it's also much more.

Our 2025 theme, "Plumbing is More," highlights how plumbing supports economies, improves sustainability, and helps build stronger, healthier communities. While often taken for granted, plumbing is behind many of the conveniences and protections people rely on every day.

More Than Pipes and Fixtures — A well-functioning plumbing system powers prosperity. Every dollar invested in water and sanitation returns more than four dollars in economic benefits.  Skilled plumbers and plumbing engineers are problem-solvers and innovators, ensuring that water and sanitation systems meet the needs of a changing world.

More Than Conservation — Water shortages and climate change put pressure on communities everywhere. About 10% of the world's population lives in areas experiencing high water stress. Plumbing professionals advance sustainability through new technologies and smarter water management that not only conserve natural resources but also ensure safe water access for future generations.

More Than a Job — Safe water and sanitation are basic human rights, yet 2.2 billion people worldwide still lack access to safely managed drinking water services. The plumbing industry plays a direct role in addressing these challenges, improving lives, and preventing disease. Improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene could save 1.4 million lives annually. This is why plumbing is such a compelling career choice, because of the opportunities to make a lasting impact.

"World Plumbing Day celebrates how our industry builds healthier, more sustainable communities," said Dave Viola, Chair of the World Plumbing Council. "From advancing water conservation to protecting public health, plumbing professionals tackle today's environmental challenges while ensuring that everyone has access to clean water and safe sanitation. Our work shapes not just our present, but our future."
